CROSS-BROWSER COMPATABILITY
Many website developers create a website and test it only on their own system, using their favorite browser. The problem with this is that each browser will interpret the code which the website is made from in a different manner. So, for example, it is entirely possible that some features of a website will function fine on Firefox, but not on Explorer. Obviously, this creates a formidable problem, as there are many browsers in use today. We test and fine-tune all websites on a variety of browsers, to ensure that your website will look great no matter which browser your website visitors choose.
SEARCH ENGINE FRIENDLINESS
There was a time, not too long ago, when a web developer could 'hide' keywords all over a website, words that would be invisible to a human, but very visible to a search engine. This practice was called 'Search Engine Optimizing' and has lost most of its effectiveness in recent years. There are other, more valid, practices that determine a website's rankings in the search engines today. Search engines can no longer be 'tricked' through the use of the old techniques, and in some cases, a website will be penalized for using them.
There are a few very simple steps which can ensure that a website will rank as highly as possible in Google and other top search engines. One is simply the use of text, ensuring that phrases are used which your customers may be entering into a search engine. Another is proper coding of webpages, coding that keeps the key phrases higher in keyword density than if a software program generated the page. At Webberman.ca, all pages are hand-coded, using time-tested html, the language which the search engines prefer. Yes, there are easier and faster ways to create a website, but the results will not be as good, especially in search results. We advise our customers of other practices they can follow to ensure higher search engine results, and we do not charge for this information.
CUTTING EDGE DESIGN
The appearance of a website is still even more important today when making that first impression online. Monitors have become wider, and so have websites, yet a well designed website will take into consideration those with narrower monitors or screen resolutions. We utilize wide background images to give those with larger monitors something to fill the screen. For example, our own website features a beach scene as a background, yet those with a narrow screen width of 960 pixels will only see the center portion of the website with the white background.
CODING FROM SCRATCH
In a world where most websites are 'generated' by software, Webberman.ca still hand-authors all web pages by hand, using the time-tested html code. All images are also optimized to look great, yet be the smallest file size possible, as some people are still on dial-up connections, and all users will experience a faster-loading web page. We know when it's best to use a jpeg or gif format, and we know our stuff. Fifteen years of experience pays off, as YOU are the one who benefits when you hire us to develop your website.
